Oregano is a perennial herb with many culinary uses. It is a flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae) and native to the Mediterranean. The plant has spade-shaped leaves with white or purple flowers. In colder climates, it is grown as annual because it cannot survive cold winters. It also grows well in containers. Oregano makes a great companion plant. It's leaves are often more flavorful when dried.
