PermalinkRaining all day today. Went out to feed the worms and look at the plants. The rocket I planted all over the place is coming up; they call it rocket for a reason. Whoosh! White flies still everywhere, still nomming on all the leaves. I want to try garlic spray but it seems pointless when it'll just wash straight off. Word is that they also love things that are orangey-yellow in colour, so if you get some paper/cardboard in that shade, coat it with cooking oil (!?), and hang it around the place, it will trap a bunch of them. Hmm. Also read a number of recs for just vacuuming them up (won't work in the rain though), and for neem oil. Hmm hmmm hmmmmm. I swear I will not let the little bastards kill off everything this year.

Your idea for getting rid of white fly is a good one. I have seen it working in a friend's garden. She uses vaseline smeared on pieces of yellow cardboard and this has helped a lot. See also http://www.sgaonline.org.au/?p=7674
Ooh, vaseline! I might try that.
Actually, the white fly mostly disappeared by mid-January. There are still a few around but not the plague proportions that everyone in Melbourne seemed to have a couple of months back.
